TRS, MIM to move Supreme Court on Governor law

KCR seek support from Telangana parties, TJAC organises protests against Centre

Hyderabad: The TRS and the MIM will move the Supreme Court if the Centre goes ahead with the proposal to entrust Telangana Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan with control of law and order in the common capital area of Hyderabad.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has taken serious view of the “infringement of the state’s rights” and has decided to fight the issue both legally and politically.

“The Telangana government strongly opposes Governor’s control of law and order in the common capital of Hyderabad. We have replied to the circular. If the Centre goes ahead with its proposal, we will move the Supreme Court. Centre cannot infringe on the state’s rights over law and order. It’s a state subject. Telangana cannot be treated differently from other states,” B. Vinod Kumar, the TRS MP and party politburo member, told this newspaper.

The TRS MPs have already lodged a strong protest in Delhi over the issue.

The MIM too is planning to move the Supreme Court through a Special Leave Petition if the Centre brings Hyderabad’s law and order under the Governor’s control. The party, which has a strong presence in Hyderabad, has vehemently opposed the move.

When MIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi met Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao, it was decided that the MIM would file the SLP and the TRS would either implead in the case or file a fresh SLP.

Mr Rao, who held discussions with his ministers, senior party leaders and legal experts, has reportedly decided to fight out the issue and seek support of all parties.

Former MP, Mr G. Vivek, also opposed Governor’s control of law and order in Hyderabad and said, “I request the Centre to drop the move. We will strongly oppose Mr Chandrababu Naidu’s designs.”

The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), which is also opposed to the Centre’s move, organised state-wide protests on Tuesday.

Telangana Telugu Desam leader Erraballi Dayakar Rao alleged that Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao was deliberately raking up the issue now for political gain.

“KCR was aware of the Centre’s proposal to merge the seven mandals of Khammam district with Andhra Pradesh and Governor’s control of law and order in the common capital of Hyderabad,” he said.
