Trump Says Board of Peace Will Be Good Thing for UN

US President says the UN has “not lived up to its potential” and believes the new initiative could bolster global conflict resolution efforts.

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Friday (local time) announced the launch of the newly formed “Board of Peace,” aimed at working with the United Nations on Gaza and other global conflicts. He argued that the UN has failed to “live up to its potential” and described the initiative as “a good thing for the United Nations.”

Trump said, “I’m not sure I want that, but it’s going to do great work with Gaza, and maybe other things… it could be beyond Gaza. And we’ll work with the United Nations. I’ve always said the United Nations has great potential, but they have not lived up to it. I say eight wars, and I never spoke to them. You’d think I would have spoken to them a lot.”

The announcement came after Trump formally launched the Board of Peace at the World Economic Forum (WEF), signing its charter and calling it a major step towards global conflict resolution. Describing the move as a “very exciting day, long in the making,” Trump added, “We’re going to have peace in the world. And we’re all stars.”

Earlier, Trump criticized the UN’s lack of competence, saying it prompted him to establish the Board of Peace to implement his 20-Point Peace Plan in Gaza. “We just created the Board of Peace, which I think is going to be amazing. I wish the United Nations could do more. With all the wars they settled, the United Nations never helped me in one war,” he said.

When asked whether the Board of Peace was intended to replace the UN, Trump replied, “The UN just hasn’t been very helpful. I’m a big fan of the UN’s potential, but it has never lived up to its potential. The UN should have settled every one of the wars that I settled. I never went to them. You never know… you’ve got to let the UN continue because the potential is so great.”

Proposed last September, the Board of Peace is part of Trump’s broader plan to end the war in Gaza and mediate global conflicts. The initiative invites world leaders from 60 countries to join a new body focused on promoting stability and overseeing post-conflict reconstruction, with an initial emphasis on the Gaza Strip.
