Former US President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for defusing high tensions between India and Pakistan, saying he helped broker a ceasefire at a time when the two nuclear-armed nations were on the brink of a major confrontation.
In a Fox News interview during his visit to the Middle East, Trump described the 2021 situation as dangerously close to a nuclear conflict, which he controversially referred to as the “n word.” Trump hailed his alleged role in the de-escalation as “one of the biggest successes” he has ever received credit for, though his claim has not been officially acknowledged by either New Delhi or Islamabad.
The India-Pakistan ceasefire understanding, reaffirmed in February 2021, led to a significant drop in cross-border firing along the Line of Control (LoC). While both countries credited backchannel talks and military-level communication, Trump has repeatedly portrayed himself as a key behind-the-scenes player.
His remarks have sparked renewed controversy, especially for equating the term “n word” with the threat of nuclear war—a phrasing that has drawn criticism for its ambiguity and tone.
