Three Killed in Riyadh, Abha Airport Attacks: Saudi Civil Aviation

"On Tuesday and Wednesday... Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport were subjected to attacks targeting their facilities," the authority said in a statement.

Riyadh:Attacks on international airports in the Saudi capital of Riyadh and the southern city of Abha killed three people and wounded dozens, the kingdom's civil aviation authority said on Wednesday.

"On Tuesday and Wednesday... Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport were subjected to attacks targeting their facilities," the authority said in a statement.

Saudi authorities did not specify who was responsible despite ongoing hostilities with Yemen's Houthi fighters, who claimed attacks on both airports on Wednesday.

An Egyptian and an Algerian national were killed at Abha airport and a Sudanese national was killed at the airport in Riyadh, the agency said, with 36 people wounded in both attacks.

The authority said the injuries "ranged from minor to severe" at both locations.

"All injured individuals were immediately transported to hospitals to receive necessary medical care. The attacks also caused some material damage," it said.

The Saudi-led coalition that backs the pro-government forces in Yemen said on X that it "destroyed the ballistic missile launch platform" used in the attack on Riyadh.

The Houthis claimed a flurry of attacks on Saudi targets on Wednesday including firing a ballistic missile at Riyadh airport, as the group battled for territory in Yemen against pro-government forces supported by the Gulf kingdom.

The Saudi-led military coalition that backs Yemen's internationally recognised government earlier said a missile targeting Riyadh airport was intercepted.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree earlier said in a post on X that drones and missiles also targeted Saudi Arabia's Abha airport and King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait and had "hit their targets accurately".

But the group was yet to comment on the latest announcement.
