Washington, DC: The Telangana Development Forum (TDF), Washington DC Chapter, marked the 21st year of its Bathukamma and Dasara Sambaralu celebrations at John Champe High School in Aldie, Virginia, on Sunday, October 18, continuing its longstanding mission of preserving Telangana’s rich cultural heritage among the Indian diaspora.

The annual celebration highlighted the cultural significance of Bathukamma, Telangana’s traditional festival of flowers, which symbolizes nature, womanhood, prosperity, and community togetherness. The 2026 festivities featured a program centered on Telangana’s vibrant folk traditions, with singers Shalini and Bikshu Nayak among the advertised musical attractions. The celebrations also included planned cultural performances, traditional music, Bathukamma competitions, and activities designed to bring families and younger generations closer to their cultural roots.
The event was organized under the leadership of Bathukamma convenors Manjusha Nampelly and Rudra Bheemreddy, with cultural coordination by Sri Lakshmi Poloju and Navnatha, supported by cultural advisor Manjuvani.
Advisors Kavita Challa, Vinaya Surineni and Kalpana Boinpally, procession coordinators Archana Seshu, Sudha Kamchatka, and Anu, and international media coordinator Anu Kadevari were also associated with the organizing committee, alongside a dedicated team of coordinators and volunteers.
One of the central objectives of the annual celebration is to introduce children and young adults growing up in the United States to the cultural traditions of Telangana. Through Bathukamma songs, traditional attire, floral arrangements and community participation, the festival helps bridge generations while strengthening connections to the homeland.
With 21 years of Bathukamma celebrations in the Washington DC metropolitan area, TDF DC has established a longstanding cultural tradition that continues to connect Telangana families living across Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC. Founded in 1999, Telangana Development Forum USA works to promote Telangana’s cultural identity while supporting social development and community welfare initiatives.
The annual celebrations stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of Telangana’s diaspora, reflecting how the state’s traditions, culture and sense of community continue to flourish far beyond India’s borders.
