LGBTQ+ Community Holds Vigil For Nepal Flood Victims
Blue Diamond Society Leads Candlelight Tribute In Kathmandu As Search For Missing Continues

Members of Nepal’s LGBTQ+ community gathered in Kathmandu to honour flood victims and pray for those still missing after the devastating disaster.
Members of the LGBTQ+ community gathered in Kathmandu for a candlelight vigil to honour victims of Nepal's devastating flash floods and pray for those still missing.Led by the Blue Diamond Society (BDS), the community members held the vigil at Khulla Manch on Saturday, sharing a moment of silence and expressing solidarity with families affected by the disaster that struck Nepal on Wednesday.
"We organised this small gathering to light candles and pray for the eternal peace of all who lost their lives in this disaster, and to pray that those who are still missing are found as quickly as possible," a community member told PTI Videos.
The vigil was organised after the BDS cancelled the 24th Nepal Pride Parade and GaiJatra Celebration scheduled for August 29 in view of the devastating floods and the difficult situation facing communities across Nepal.
In a statement posted earlier on Instagram, the BDS said it would replace the planned parade and larger celebration with a small candlelight condolence event to provide "a quiet space to remember those who have lost their lives and to express our collective grief and solidarity."
The death toll from the flash floods in central Nepal rose to 734 on Sunday, with more bodies being recovered even as nearly 2,500 people remained missing.
Bodies have been recovered from all eight affected districts as rescuers continue search operations on the fifth day after the disaster.
An ice-rock avalanche following a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border sent a torrent of water, mud and debris downstream, wiping out towns and villages, damaging crucial infrastructure and washing away hydropower stations across central Nepal.
