Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has stirred controversy by claiming that Islamabad received “divine help” during its military confrontation with India in May, following New Delhi’s strikes on terror infrastructure under Operation Sindoor.

Munir made the remarks earlier this month while addressing the National Ulema Conference in Islamabad, where he also recited verses from the Quran. Videos of his speech surfaced on Pakistani television and social media on Sunday, though no official transcript of the address has been released.

Referring to the four-day military standoff with India, Munir suggested that Pakistan’s armed forces experienced divine intervention rather than relying solely on military capabilities. “We felt it,” he said, asserting that the assistance received during the conflict was “100 per cent true.”

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. New Delhi blamed Pakistan-backed terror groups for the attack.

The Indian strikes led to four days of intense military exchanges between the two countries before both sides agreed to halt operations on May 10. While India publicly detailed the objectives and outcomes of its actions, Munir’s remarks have drawn attention for framing Pakistan’s response in religious and supernatural terms.

The comments have triggered debate and criticism, with observers questioning the growing overlap between religious rhetoric and Pakistan’s military narrative, particularly on matters of national security and regional conflict.
