Explosion in Kabul targets MP's convoy, causes casualties

There were reports that the MP's bodyguard was killed in the attack.

Kabul: An explosion went off in a crowded area of the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Wednesday, causing some casualties, witnesses said, while a police officer said it appeared to have been a bomb attack aimed at a member of parliament.

Tolo news agency identified the legislator as Fakuri Behishti, MP from Bamiyan, who was on his way to Parliament when a magnetic IED exploded near his vehicle in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul city. Tolo also reports that the MP’s bodyguard was killed in the attack.

A police official, who declined to be identified because he is not authorized to speak to the media, also said there had been some casualties but he gave no details.

Last week, another member of parliament was targeted by a suicide bomber who killed seven people.
