Posters in Pakistan claim Lashkar-e-Taiba behind Uri attack: report

The posters also feature LeT founder Hafiz Saeed and further strenghtens India's claims of Pak involvement in Uri attack.

Gujranwala, Punjab: In what could further strengthen New Delhi’s stand against Islamabad for its role in the dastardly Uri attack which claimed the lives of 19 soldiers, posters claiming (LeT) Lashkar-e-Taiba's involvement in the terror strike have emerged in Pakistan's Punjab province.

According to an Indian Express report, the posters claimed that LeT would be performing last rites of one of the Uri attackers at Bada Nullah, near Girjakh in Punjab's Gujranwala town.

The posters call on people to join in the namaaz prayers organised for the "lion-hearted holy warrior Abu Siraqa Muhammad Anas, who sent 177 Hindu soldiers to hell at the Uri Brigade camp in Kashmir, and thus drank from the glass of martyrdom."

Muhammad Anas, a resident of Gujranwala town has also been named in one of the posters. The posters also feature the photograph of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, taking clear responsibility for the attack.

Tension have heightened between the two nuclear-armed neighbours after terrorists armed with AK-47s and grenades attacked the Indian Army camp on 18th September 2016.

At first, Indian official said that the JeM was behind the attack, but in the later stage of investigation two maps showing general area of Uri were recovered from the four slain terrorists made investigators believe that the terrorists behind the attack could be from Pakistan-based LeT.

The maps showed various places of Uri including the Brigade Headquarters and other installations of this town, about 75 km North of Srinagar. The place is strategically important in view of the power project operated by National Hydel Power Corporation(NHPC).

The maps would now form a part of investigations which is being handled by the National Investigating Agency (NIA).
