Wuhan, Hubei: Nineteen buildings in the Chinese city of Wuhan disappeared in the blink of an eye after they were demolished by a huge explosion in order to make way for a skyscraper.
The 12-storey buildings were brought down to make way for a new business district that would also comprise of a 707-metre tall skyscraper.
About 150,000 square metres of concrete, steel and glass was demolished in the night -- all within a matter of 10 seconds.
The residents of the buildings were already moved out a couple of weeks prior to the demolition.
Jia Yongsheng, general director of the demolition company, said about five tons of explosive material was used for the demolition, adding that the explosives were spread at around 120, 000 locations in the buildings.
"The demolition effect was quite ideal. The explosion didn't affect the public facilities around the blasted buildings. There was no damage and adverse effects of blasting," Jia was quoted as saying....
