Nepal\'s Gorkha district hit with moderate intensity earthquake

A moderate intensity earthquake hit Nepal\'s Gorkha district, the tremors of which were also felt in the Himalayan nation\'s capital.

Kathmandu: A moderate intensity earthquake hit Nepal's Gorkha district, about 160 km west from here, on Tuesday, the tremors of which were also felt in the Himalayan nation's capital, officials said.

They also said that there were no reports of damage to the property. According to the Nepal's National Seismological Centre (NSC), a 4.5-magnitude quake was felt in the Gorkha district and surrounding areas at around 12:35 pm (local time).

"The earthquake was also felt in Kathmandu. However, so far there is no report of any damage. This is the third earthquake above 4.5-magnitude that hit Nepal in the past five days," the NSC officials said.

On Saturday, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake hit the country's Rasuwa district while a 4.8-magnitude tremor hit the far-west Bajhang district on Sunday.

Nepal's Gorkha district was hit by a great earthquake in April 2015 in which around 9,000 people were killed.
