Taliban 'publicly' beat up woman for visiting doctor with brother-in-law
Kabul: In a shocking incident, an Afghan woman was publicly beaten up by several Taliban militants because she was being accompanied by her brother-in-law instead of her husband, according to a report in Independent.
While the duo was going to the doctor, some militants started beating her. Unaware of the fact that the man accompanying her was her brother-in-law and not a stranger, the militants also attacked the man. Reports suggest that this might have been a case of misunderstanding. The attackers might have thought that the woman had left the house with a stranger, which according to them is un-Islamic.
A video footage made rounds on the internet in which the woman can be seen pleading to her attackers to leave her alone. She tried to convince them that she needed to visit the doctor urgently and her husband was unavailable at the moment, so she had to ask her brother-in-law to accompany her.
Although police officials have confirmed the brutal act of the militants, they said that they could not take any action as a case has not been registered.
Even today, in some of the rural parts of Afghanistan, a woman is not allowed to go out with or talk to a stranger man. It is considered to be against the Islamic codes and is even subject to punishment.
