1 child killed, three injured in IED blast in Pakistan

A vehicle carrying four students to nearby private school hit the remote-controlled bomb in Arang Tehsil of the Bajaur Agency.

Peshawar: At least one child was killed and four others were injured on Friday when the vehicle they were travelling in hit an improvised explosive device (IED) in Pakistan's restive northwest tribal region.

A vehicle carrying four students to nearby private school hit the remote-controlled bomb in Arang Tehsil of the Bajaur Agency killing one on the spot and injuring others, officials said.

The area was cordoned off by security forces to conduct a search operation after the attack.

At least 12 suspects were taken into custody for interrogation related to this incident, official sources said.

Police officials and local people immediately reached the site and shifted the wounded to the Agency headquarters hospital Khar for treatment.

The vehicle belonged to government contractor, who had also been attacked twice in the past. The reason behind these attacks could not be confirmed, The Express Tribune reported.

Last month, a police official was killed in a similar blast earlier in Mohmand area of the same agency. The official died in the blast at the sentry post at Loy Mohmand near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The bomb, planted along the post, was detonated using a remote-controlled device when the officials, who were on duty with security force at the main post, visited the site.
