Pakistan's ISI makes quake prediction

Pakistan Met Office chief Dr Ghulam Rasool told the BBC several departments are preparing to deal with any situation.

Islamabad: Netizens were left confused and a bit amused on Saturday after Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, predicted an earthquake in the Indian Ocean. Based on ISI’s information Pakistan’s Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority, in a letter leaked on Saturday, warned other agencies concerned “to be on the vigil”, The Nation reported.

The letter stated, “An information report has been received from directorate general, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) that there is reportedly, likelihood of large-scale earthquake, as being expected, in the Indian Ocean in the near future which may vigorously shake the Asian continental areas, including Pakistan.”

Pakistan Met Office chief Dr Ghulam Rasool told the BBC several departments are preparing to deal with any situation.Twitter and Facebook users were quick to mock the ISI. Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, also poked fun at the letter. “ISI predicts earthquake in Indian Ocean. Didn’t know it was #Pakistan’s Geological Survey & Early Earthquake Warning system too,” he tweeted.
