Eagerly waiting to see Nawaz Sharif behind bars: Imran Khan

Three of Sharif's four children are said to be owners of offshore companies, according to the Panama Papers.

Islamabad: Accusing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of corruption and financial wrong doings, Pakistan' opposition leader Imran Khan on Thursday said he was "eagerly" waiting to see the premier and his younger brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif behind bars.

Addressing thousands of his Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) supporters at Parade Ground here, Khan accused Sharif of transferring corruption money out of the country to let his children buy properties abroad which they manage through offshore companies as mentioned in the Panama leaks.

Three of Sharif's four children are said to be owners of offshore companies, according to the Panama Papers.

Khan had yesterday turned his proposed million men protest march in capital to force Sharif to step-down to a thank-giving gathering after Supreme Court agreed to hear petitions against Sharif in the corruption cases.

"I am eagerly waiting for the day when Nawaz (Sharif) and his brother (Shahbaz) are put behind bars (for corruption)," he said to the applause of his workers.

He said the Supreme Court has started the accountability of Sharif and hopefully his fate will be sealed soon.

Sharif and his family have dismissed the allegations of money laundering and denied any wrongdoing but the opposition is demanding an independent probe.

Khan also blasted Sharif's government for using police to stop workers from coming to his protest and alleged that even women supporters were beaten by the police.

He said that it was the people's right under a democracy to stage a protest against corruption.
