Runways closed, flights suspended at Haneda airport in Tokyo

The Indian Embassy issues contact numbers and emails for assistance to passengers

The Embassy of India in Tokyo has released an alert to the Indian passengers about the closure of runways at Haneda airport following a fire in a plane.
Flights have also been suspended temporarily.

The Embassy released several contact numbers and also emails for consular assistance in the crisis.

On Tuesday, a fire broke out in a Japan Airlines plane while it was landing on the runway at Haneda airport in Tokyo, according to footage broadcast by Japan's public broadcaster NHK. Flames were seen blowing out of the aircraft's windows. It was also reported that the plane, JAL 516, had taken off from Hokkaido.

The blaze could have erupted in the plane due to a possible collision with a Coast Guard aircraft, Nippon TV reported. Haneda is one of the busiest airports in Japan.

A spokesperson at Japan Airlines said the aircraft originated from Shin-Chitose airport in Hokkaido and was carrying around 367 passengers. All the passengers have been evacuated from the blazing plane, AFP reported citing NHK.
