Mentally unstable son beheads parents in Saudi, family blames hospital
Riyadh: A 'mentally unstable' man has been accused of decapitating his parents at their home in Saudi Arabia's Taif's Al Suhaili neighbourhood.
According to a report in the Khaleej Times, the man murdered his 59-year-old father and 48-year-old mother with a knife after locking them up in a room.
The matter came to light when the accused's brother called up his parents. When he failed to connect with them, he called up their neighbours and requested them to check on his parents.
The neighbour then went to the accused's house only to find two slaughtered bodies.
Shocked, he immediately informed the accused's brother and the police. He also said that he saw the accused holding a knife in his hand and cutting the body parts.
"The neighbour called the police. The police came to the scene and saw the murderer wearing black clothes with his hands covered in blood. The murderer was unable to speak and it was apparent that he suffered from mental illnesses," said a source.
The source also told the police that the accused was mentally unstable and was previously admitted to Shihar Mental Hospital.
"The father had filed a disobedience lawsuit against the murderer last year, after which he was put in prison for a year. After the murderer was released from prison, he went home to murder his parents," the source added.
Meanwhile, the accused's family put the blame on the mental asylum for their carelessness which resulted in the death of his parents.
"The hospital released my nephew before his treatment was completed. They were well aware that he was mentally unstable and they released him. My nephew was not on drugs when he committed the horrific crime, " the accused's uncle was quoted as saying in the report.
"The entire family witnessed the aftermath of the gruesome murder. We saw a pool of blood around the scattered body parts of my sister and her husband. We asked what happened and he said he beat up his own parents before stabbing them with a knife and decapitating them," he added.
The accused has again been taken to the mental asylum. However, the motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
