Sharjah: An Asian man settled in United Arab Emirates (UAE) cut off his penis after his family members coerced him to remarry, despite having a wife and two daughters back in his home country.
According to a report in the Khaleej Times, the man was already married and yet was being forced to remarry. The mutilated man was rushed to Al Qassimi Hospital where the doctors managed to save his life after a three-hour surgery. They then informed the police about the incident.
Initial police reports suggested that the man tried to commit suicide. However, after investigation, it was found that a family dispute led the man to take such a drastic step.
Police officials said that the man's family was forcing him to remarry, which he refused to do. Since his family members would not listen to his pleas, he cut off his penis.
After the incident, the man's brother immediately rushed him to the hospital. He also carried his brother's cut off organ in a plastic bag and handed it over to the doctors.
Doctors told the police that the victim was bleeding profusely when he was brought to the hospital. Dr Younis said that initially the victim refused to undergo a restoration surgery, but ended up agreeing to it after being convinced by his brother.
"I have conducted a number of surgeries on male organs; but this case was very strange and rare as the organ was separated from the body and was brought to us in plastic bag," Dr Younis added.
The doctors at the hospital have recommended psychiatric treatment to the man once he is discharged.
