Drunk Indian carpenter rapes cleaner in Dubai, denies accusation

Reports said that the accused had consumed three bottles of liquor before attacking the victim.

Dubai: An Indian-origin foreman who allegedly under the influence of alcohol raped a cleaner in the restroom of a shopping mall in Dubai, has denied all allegations against him.

According to a report in the Khaleej Times, the 47-year-old accused dragged the cleaner to a changing room and slapped her several times before sexually assaulting her.

Reports said that the accused had consumed three bottles of liquor before attacking the victim. Following the incident, a police case was registered based on the victim's statement.

In her statement to the police, the victim said, "I was at the restroom of the centre at 2 am when I saw that man's reflection in the mirror. I turned around and asked him why he was in the women's toilet."

The victim also told the police that when she tried to leave the restroom, the accused stopped her and even snatched her mobile phone.

Before she could understand what was happening, the accused covered her mouth with one hand and repeatedly slapped her with the another. He then took off her clothes and raped her, she said recalling the torment.

The victim said that her ordeal came to an end only when the accused heard noises of people approaching the toilet. Scared, the woman rushed to the security guard and told him about the incident, who then informed the cops.

"I learned about what happened shortly before 3 am. I went there and saw the victim crying and looking very down in the ambulance. Her face looked red, said a police official.

"I looked for the foreman in his office in vain. Then I saw he was held by a police captain who found him hiding in the parking lot. He gave different stories when I interrogated him. But he claimed she took off her clothes and had sex with him willingly. He also claimed he slapped her after she cursed him," he added. However, the accused later pleaded guilty to raping the woman.

Medical reports of the victim also revealed that the accused's DNA traces were found on the victim's body.

The case is undergoing a trial at the court and has been adjourned till November 15.
