'Fault of terrorists': Syria's Assad laughs when asked about kids killed by bombs

'I sleep regular, I sleep and work, eat normal and do sports,' said Assad, adding that kids are killed because of 'the fault of terrorists'.

Damascus: Even as Syrians struggle with the war situation in the country, President Bashar al-Assad was questioned during an interview about innocent children being killed everyday, to which he laughed off and said that he sleeps fine.

The incident comes at a time when Syrians are dealing with Russia-backed cluster bombs and US-led coalition air strikes that are claiming several lives, including children.

According to a report in the Independent, Assad said that the death of hundreds of civilians is "the fault of terrorists", adding that "we are talking about war, not charity".

While being interviewed, he was asked if he slept well at night when dozens of children were being killed everyday, to which he reportedly laughed and said, "I know the meaning of that question. I sleep regular, I sleep and work and eat normal and do sports.”

When asked about the how he felt when air strikes hit civilians, he said, "It’s the fault of terrorists and we are talking about war, not charity."

"In war you always have innocents hurt or killed. What do you do? You do your best. Terrorists are still in Aleppo and use civilians as human shields," he explained further.

"We can’t just stand still and say, don’t destroy the city. More important than the city are the people, so we have to do the best for them," he added.

Two months ago, opposition parties in Syria claimed that civilians were targeted with deadly 'napalm bombing' ordered by President Assad that killed 25 people including six children.

Government warplanes had hit the Syrian province of Hama killing several people and leaving many others with severe burns and injuries. Shocking photos of the victims of 'napalm bombing' in Syria showed children with severe burns being carried to hospital. One of the images showed a boy sitting on the hospital bed in shock with horrifying burns.

Although Syrian government did not verify the claims of 'napalm bombs' being used in the air strikes, it has been proven that the government forces do use some kind of chemical weapons.
