Iran Interior Minister Visits Pakistan Amid Escalating US Conflict

Visit comes as Pakistan continues mediation efforts and Iran declares it is in a "full-scale war" with the US.

Iran's Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni is set to visit Pakistan's capital Islamabad on Monday for high-level talks with Pakistani officials, a Pakistani interior ministry source confirmed, as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to intensify.

The source told AFP that Momeni would hold meetings with senior Pakistani officials but did not specify whether the discussions were directly linked to Pakistan's ongoing diplomatic efforts to mediate between Tehran and Washington. Pakistan has consistently called for restraint and dialogue as the conflict threatens to destabilise the wider West Asian region.

The visit comes at a critical juncture, with military exchanges between the United States and Iran escalating in recent days. Pakistan has maintained communication with both countries and has repeatedly expressed its willingness to facilitate dialogue aimed at reducing hostilities and preventing a broader regional conflict.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday said Iran was now engaged in a "full-scale war" with the United States, underscoring the gravity of the confrontation.

"The reality is that today the Islamic Republic of Iran is engaged in a full-scale war," Pezeshkian said in a statement issued by the Iranian presidency. He added that the country must "be realistic and accept the natural consequences of this resistance," signalling Tehran's readiness to endure the costs of the conflict.

Momeni's visit is expected to focus on regional security, bilateral cooperation and the rapidly evolving geopolitical situation. While neither Islamabad nor Tehran has officially disclosed the agenda, the talks are likely to be closely watched amid mounting international concerns over the risk of further escalation and its impact on regional stability.
