German dad puts 6-week-old on sale on eBay, banned from contacting her
Berlin: A German migrant accused of putting his six-week-old daughter on sale on eBay has been banned from having any kind of unsupervised contact with her.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, the baby was put up on the online auction site by her father, following which she was taken into special care unit in the German city of Duisburg.
Titled "Child, 40 days old named Maria… for sale", the baby was offered with a starting price of €5,000. He also put up various photos of baby Maria wearing sleep suits.
Soon after auctioning the newborn online, the posting was taken down by eBay. Eventually, the accused surrendered before the police.
The chairman of the Christian-Democratic Union of the Rheinhausen district of Duisburg said, "If the parents believe that they cannot provide the child with proper care, we have the possibility in Germany to give the child up for adoption or to give it to a foster family."
Baby Maria is currently placed in a care facility and her parents would be placed under the watch of social services.
The care facility where she has been kept said that the baby could eventually return to her parents' custody if it is proved in court that they are not criminally liable.
