UK: Man films himself swallowing live goldfish, jailed for animal cruelty

A report stated that the accused had been drinking the night before he swallowed his pet fish.

Paignton, England: A man from England's Paignton was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after he filmed himself swallowing a live goldfish as a part of a 'neknominate' challenge.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the 24-year-old Timber merchant Daniel Challis had been drinking the night before he swallowed his pet fish.

The accused was caught after his friend filmed the video and posted it on Facebook.

The duo was charged with animal cruelty and causing unnecessary harm to the fish. However, they both denied the charges and insisted that the fish was dead at the time of the challenge.

After analysing the video, investigators said, "You can see the fish moving in the pint glass and you can see it moving in the accused’s hand. His hand is rock steady and the fish is moving."

The pair have been warned that they could face jail if convicted at the Plymouth Magistrates Court after their sentencing on February 3. They have currently being released on unconditional bail.
