Woman gets \'slut-shamed\' by a nurse during STD check-up

The woman wrote on Reddit that she had a one night stand with someone she had \'developed deep connections with\' and had used protection.

A 21-year-old woman was "slut-shamed" by a nurse at a clinic following a Sexually-Transmitted Disease (STD) check-up, reported Independent.

The woman wrote on Reddit that she had her first one night stand with someone she had "developed deep connections with" and had used protection. Later she noticed some symptoms and headed for the clinic.

She said, "I went to an urgent care because I wanted to see if there was maybe a simpler answer to this problem (yeast infection or UTI) and if not, I wanted to send my urine off for an STD screening."

She continued, "My doctor asked me a series of questions (when did you become sexually active, when was your last sexual partner, how many sexual partners, etc.), all of which I was up front and honest about so she could better treat me."

The doctor diagnosed her with a standard yeast infection and a STD test was scheduled, said Independent.

As she got up to leave, the nurse in the clinic asked her to sit back down and started saying,"With all of that being said, you're 21 years old, you really need to guard and protect your character."

Surprised and furious with the comment, the patient looked at the nurse with a confused expression. However, ignoring that, the nurse continued, "Well you know, guys get to have sex all they want and nothing bad comes out of it for them but you know us as women we can't be doing that as much because we have to protect our character."

She also added, "You're going to want to have kids one day, and the way you're living your life now could really hurt you and your chances of having a kid with a good man."

She vented about her experience in Reddit's Am I The A**hole? forum. She declared that she was intersted in lodging a complaint against the nurse for her condesending and sexist stance. She said that she was "in too much shock" at the time to answer back.

She continued, "I was open and honest with this woman in hopes that it would help her better to treat me, and in turn I get slut shamed for it? I don’t want to go after anybody’s job, but I don’t want other women to have to go through this same thing just for having sex."

After further encouragement from her supporters, she decided to tell the clinic's manager who was understanding and promised to act.

She further explained, "The lady was very nice, and once my complaint was heard she said she’d “call the doctor (her supervisor)” right away and to expect a call from him on my cell."

A Reddit user summed up the event by saying, "This is rude, regressive, none of her business and could actually deter women from getting care."
