UK: 79-year-old woman goes on 5-year crime spree, says was bored of routine

Crewe, Cheshire: A 79-year-old woman from UK went on a five-year long crime spree saying she was bored of her daily routine, police have said. The accused was also a ‘heroine addict’ in her teenage days, it was reported.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the woman said that she began shoplifting when she was in her mid-70s as she desperately wanted to get out of her hometown.

The woman from Crewe, Cheshire, said that she used to travel to different places using her free bus pass. During her free travel, she used to shoplift things from various stores. She also said that sometimes she used to hide the stolen products in her trolley.

She was caught red-handed by a supermarket security guard last year in Stanford while stealing items from two stores. During interrogation, she told police officials, “I'm bored I suppose. I just wanted to get out of Crewe.”

She was produced in a court and was let off after being slapped with a fine.
