Not just Trump: Britain to build wall to stop refugees from entering country

Immigration minister Robert Goodwill said that although the government has built a fence, people are still getting through.

Paris: It's not just US Presidential candidate Donald Trump who wants to build a wall to stop people from entering America.

In a bid to block refugees from entering the UK, the government has proposed to build a 13-foot wall in Calais, a port city in northern France.

According to a report in the Independent, immigration minister Robert Goodwill said that although the government has built a fence, people are still getting through and entering the country.

"We have done the fence, now we are doing a wall," Goodwill said.

Goodwill said that the wall will stretch for a kilometre along the dual carriageway that approaches the port. The wall has been designed in such a way that it will block refugees from climbing into lorries or huge vehicles and crossing over.

He also added that the government is stepping up security with better equipment for the same.

Goodwill also said that the wall would be built as a part of the £17million package which is being undertaken in collaboration with the French government.

The Calais camp, currently home to at least 7,000 migrants from the Mideast and Africa trying to reach Britain, has epitomised the challenges of Europe's migrant crisis.
