UK: Paedophile's jail sentence reduced as he wants to start a family

The man was found in possession of at least 4,336 videos and 137,000 images related to child pornography.

Derby: A court in the United Kingdom reduced the sentence of a 41-year-old man, found in possession of over one lakh child porn pictures on his digital devices, after he told the court that he wanted to start a family.

According to a report in Daily Mail, Richard Arrowsmith from Church Gresley, Derbyshire was on Wednesday presented before Derby Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to all the charges against him. He was supposed to be sentenced to jail for up to five years, but received only 10-month jail term when he told the court that he wanted to start a family.

The court also imposed a fine of £250, after he said he wanted to start a family with his wife who was still supporting him.

“You are 41-years-old, with no previous convictions and you pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity. There are three charges against you in relation to the possession of indecent images of children,” recorder Martin Butterworth said.

“I am taking into consideration your previous good character, you have a wife who supports you, a steady employment and your hopes to start a family in the near future,” Butterworth said.

The court has also asked Arrowsmith to do 160 hours of unpaid work and prohibited him from leaving his house between 7pm and 5am. He has also been barred from working with children and had to sign the sex offenders' register.

Arrowsmith was caught with 4,336 videos and 137,000 images related to child pornography after police raided his house and seized his computer, external hard drive, laptop, mobile phone and USB sticks on April 19 this year.

The raid was based on a tip-off in February that an IP address linked to Arrowsmith’s Sky account was used to download indecent pictures. At the time of the arrest, he had admitted to downloading and viewing indecent pictures and videos of children for over four years.
