Paris: Taking a dig at the top court's decision to overturn burkini ban, a right wing French mayor said that he would continue with the ban and people should live according to the customs and traditions of the country.
Referring to tourists, Marc Etienne Lansade, the mayor of Cogolin commune in France, said, "If you don't want to live the way we do, don't come."
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Lansade said that tourists and local people should behave in the way accepted by the country.
He also went on to say, "If you are accepted in Rome -- do like Romans do. Go in Saudi Arabia and be naked and see what will happen to you."
Terming the burkini ban as illegal, a top administrative court in Nice ruled against the Islamic swimsuit ban last week amid the increasing controversy after some Muslim women were being forced to remove body-concealing garments on French Riviera beaches and were even slapped with a fine.
After the court's judgement, human rights groups said that they will challenge burkini ban in others places too.
Many officials -- including Prime Minister Manuel Valls -- have argued that burkinis oppress women. But critics say the bans were feeding a racist political agenda as campaigning for next year's French presidential elections were kicking off.
