2 police, bystander, suspect wounded in Copenhagen shootout

Police say the assailant pulled a gun when police tried to arrest a man for illegally selling hashish.

Copenhagen: Police say they have arrested an armed Danish man following a Copenhagen shootout during which two police officers, a bystander and the gunman were wounded.

The trouble started on Wednesday night in Copenhagen's easygoing Christiania neighbourhood, where illegal hashish is sold openly.

Police say the assailant pulled a gun when police tried to arrest him and shot one uniformed officer in the head, seriously wounding him. A second plainclothes officer was shot in the leg and a bystander in the thigh as the attacker initially escaped.

Police say they tracked down the attacker in another part of the Danish capital and subdued the suspect with a gunshot early on Thursday.

Police provided no details of the gunman's injuries or why they were trying to arrest him in the first place.
