Adelaide: A 27-year-old man from Adelaide has been jailed for just three years for raping his 3-year-old daughter, his 9-year-old stepdaughter, the family dog as well as chickens.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, most of the abuse was directed against his stepdaughter, then between 9 and 11 years of age, at times when she was sleeping peacefully.
The court heard that the man had also raped his 3-year-old daughter and had penetrative sex with the family dog and chickens.
The man had himself been abused as a child and had sexual contact with a dog.
A psychologist found that he had ‘distorted attitudes’ and was aroused by his wrong behaviour towards the children and animals.
In a letter to his ex-wife, he confessed to abusing his daughter and stepdaughter, the report said.
The wife informed police, and the man then confessed to two counts of bestiality, one count of persistent sexual exploitation of a child and one aggravated count of indecent assault.
On Wednesday, the man was sentenced to 6 years and 7 months in prison, but was given a non-parole period of three and a half years, due to making a full confession.
His non-parole period began in December 2015 when he was taken into custody, so it will end in less than three years from now.
'You abused and betrayed in the most serious way possible your position as father of the children to satisfy your abnormal sexual desires,' District Court Judge Paul Muscat said.
Muscat called the abuse ‘unnatural, gross and disturbing’ but gave the man a short sentence because he confessed, showed remorse and ‘a strong motivation to recover’.
The man has consented to an intervention order that bans him from seeing or contacting his family, and is getting treatment to suppress his urges, said the report.
