Pakistan to Power Bitcoin & AI Data Centre with 2,000 MW Surplus Electricity

Pakistan’s energy sector faces challenges like high tariffs and surplus capacity

Pakistan will allocate 2,000 megawatts of electricity to power a Bitcoin and AI data centre in the first phase of a national initiative, the Finance Ministry announced Sunday. The rapid expansion of solar energy has caused complications, pushing consumers toward alternative energy sources to manage high costs.

Pakistan’s energy sector faces challenges like high tariffs and surplus capacity. This allocation aims to utilize surplus electricity for Bitcoin mining and an AI data centre.
Led by the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC), the initiative seeks to monetize excess electricity, create high-tech jobs, and attract foreign investment.
The allotment marks the first stage of a multiphase digital infrastructure rollout.
