Nepal Floods: C'garh Man Finds 'Eloped' Wife Via Helpline; 2 NRI Docs Missing

RAIPUR: A man here successfully made use of the emergency disaster helpline facility, launched primarily to trace missing people in flash flood-hit Nepal, to locate his wife, who had eloped with her ‘boyfriend’ to the neighbouring country a month ago.
The 25-year-old man from DD Nagar area lodged a missing person complaint in the local police station on July 25, after his wife, Monika Yadav (24), went missing.
He has found no clues about her whereabouts since then.
The couple was introduced on Instagram, and their interactions on the platform led to a wedding in December 2025.
But less than a year into their marriage, Monica allegedly eloped with another partner.
The opening of emergency disaster helplines by the Centre as well as the Chhattisgarh government created an opportunity for him to locate his ‘missing’ wife in Nepal after his ‘contacts’ tipped him off about her prospective locations in the Himalayan nation, police said.
After receiving the information, the Chhattisgarh disaster response officials sprang to action taking up the matter with the administrative and diplomatic channels in Nepal.
Search teams in Nepal finally located her in Janakpur, unaffected by the flash flood, police said.
Later, a probe by the police revealed that she had fled to Janakpur in Nepal with another partner to settle down there.
Meanwhile, out of nine persons hailing from Chhattisgarh, who visited Nepal, five have contacted their respective family members to inform them that they are safe, while two others are on their way to Chhattisgarh.
However, two Non-Resident Indian (NRI) doctors from Chhattisgarh were still missing in Nepal, official reports here said.
