Malaysian mother chains daughter to lamp post, leaves her there as punishment

Wearing a school uniform, the 8-year-old girl was witnessed standing next to a lamp post by shocked motorists.

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian police have taken a woman into custody for allegedly tying up her eight-year-old daughter to a lamp post on the streets of Kuala Lumpur as a punishment for refusing to go to school.

Wearing a school uniform, the minor girl was witnessed standing next to a lamp post by shocked motorists, who then informed the police, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, the distressed girl was left embarrassed as she was unable to move due to being chained up.

When police reached the spot, the girl told them that she was tied up by her mother for misbehaving and that her mother would soon turn up and set her free. Police officials then waited for her mother to return, who turned up 10 minutes later.

She confessed to tying up her daughter as she would often refuse to go to school. The mother-daughter duo were then taken to the nearest police station.

"We established that it was the first time the girl was chained. It was decided to let the mother go home with her daughter, warning her not to do it again," Assistant Police Commissioner said.
