Reports said hundreds of people poured out onto the streets on hearing the sound of the aircraft at about 10.20 pm local time.

NEW DELHI: Amid the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan Air Force flew its F-16s over Islamabad, triggering panic late on Thursday night. Reports said hundreds of people poured out onto the streets on hearing the sound of the aircraft at about 10.20 pm local time.

According to Pakistani media reports, the highway between Islamabad and Peshawar has been closed; earlier in the day, the PAF had tried landing aircraft on the Islamabad-Lahore highways as part of a mock drill.

Pakistan-based journalist Hamid Mir tweeted about the flying jets. “F-16 planes flying at 10:20 pm over Islamabad,” his tweet said. Speaking to a TV channel, Mr Mir said the aircraft made three or four sorties over the Pakistan capital.
