China: 40-yr-old man claims pregnant minor is his 20-yr-old wife, arrested

Xuzhou: The Chinese police have arrested a 40-year-old man after he took his '20-year-old wife' to a hospital in from Xuzhou city of Jiangsu Province for check-up, where the staff found out that she was just a minor aged 12.

According to a report in Mirror, the man and his mother had taken the three-month old pregnant girl to Xuzhou City Central Hospital, claiming that her age was 20.

However, the hospital staff grew suspicious about her age and informed the local authorities when they found out she was just a minor. The hospital staff said the husband was agitated when they asked questions about her age.

"I took her here to be examined - just do your job. Stop asking so many questions," she was quoted as saying.

"It's obvious she is just a child, and certainly not anywhere near 20 years old,” one of the staff said.

The police officers who arrived at the hospital did not find any identity card on the girl and believed that she was a foreign national, who could have been abducted or brought as a foreign bride.

Investigation is underway to find the exact origins of the girl.
