In 2011, after the Indian godman died, Maduro, who was foreign minister of Venezuela then, ensured that the government passed an official condolence resolution. Accordingly, Venezuela's National Assembly passed an official condolence resolution and declared a day of national mourning, recognizing the godman's spiritual contribution to humanity. Anantapur: Nicolas Maduro, captured by the USA along with his wife Cilia Flores, had been an ardent devotee of Sri Satya Saibaba of Puttaparthi.
Cilia Flores introduced Maduro to Saibaba before their marriage. The duo visited Prashanti Nilayam Ashram in Puttaparthi of Andhra Pradesh in 2005 and took the blessings of Sri Satya Saibaba.

When Sri Satya Saibaba attained Mahasamadhi on May 24, 2011, Maduro, as the then Foreign minister of Venezuela, passed an official condolence resolution in the South American country’s National Assembly.
The country even declared a day of national mourning.
During the recent Centenary Birth Celebrations of Saibaba on November 23, 2025, Maduro released an official statement describing his Guru as a Beacon of Light. “May the wisdom of this great teacher continue to enlighten us,” the statement said.
The service and spiritual activities of Sri Satya Sai International Organisation (SSSIO) are spread across more than 125 countries. In Venezuela, the organisation focuses on Vedic classes and Gita. As part of its social services, the SSSIO feeds the homeless, cares for the elderly, and runs human values programmes in schools.
The SSSIO in Venezuela, established in 1974 in Caracas, is one of Latin America's largest centres.
