New Delhi: External affairs minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday held bilateral meetings with senior US officials in Washington, a day after India and the United States announced a bilateral trade pact.
Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and discussed a range of bilateral, regional and global issues. In a post on X after the meeting, the external affairs minister said the talks covered the India-US strategic partnership, including cooperation in trade, energy, nuclear, defence, critical minerals and technology, and that both sides agreed on early meetings of various mechanisms to advance shared interests.
The external affairs minister also met US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Describing the interaction as useful, Jaishankar said the discussions focused on advancing the India-US economic partnership and strategic cooperation.
Earlier, Jaishankar welcomed the announcement of the bilateral trade agreement following a conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. He said the agreement would create jobs, spur growth and promote innovation in both economies, while strengthening the ‘Make in India’ initiative and trusted technology ties.
The EAM is also scheduled to participate in a “critical minerals ministerial” convened by Rubio in Washington, which will focus on supply chain resilience, clean energy transitions and strategic cooperation in critical minerals.
