US Hails India’s Measured Response

The US Secretary of State shared that he spoke with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar about the blast.

New Delhi: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday said his country has offered to assist India in the probe into the Delhi terror attack, which he described as “clearly a terrorist attack.” He also praised the “professional” manner in which Indian agencies are conducting the investigation. Rubio had met external affairs minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Wednesday on the sidelines of the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Ontario, Canada, where the two discussed the terror incident.

Speaking to reporters at the Hamilton International Airport in Canada, Rubio said, “I think the Indians need to be commended; they have been very measured, cautious, and professional in how they’re carrying out this investigation. That investigation continues. Clearly, it was a terrorist attack. It was a car loaded with highly explosive materials that detonated and killed a lot of people. I think they’re doing a very good job of carrying out an investigation, and I think when they have facts, they’ll release those facts.”

Rubio added, “We are aware of the potential impact this could have on tensions between India and Pakistan, and we discussed that today, the possibility of the situation escalating further. But we are going to wait and see what the investigation reveals. We’ve offered to help, but they’re very capable. They don’t need our help; they’re doing a good job, and I thought they were very measured and professional in their approach, as they usually are.”

EAM Jaishankar posted on X after the meeting on Wednesday: “Good to meet @SecRubio this morning at #G7 FMM. Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi. Discussed our bilateral ties, focusing on trade and supply chains. Exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation and Indo-Pacific.”
