US man charged for pouring bleach into girlfriend's water to cause miscarriage
Washington DC: A 20-year-old man from Washington DC has been charged with attempted murder by the police after he allegedly poured liquid bleach into his pregnant girlfriend’s water bottle in order to get the child aborted.
According to a report in the New York Daily, Theophilus Washington, the accused and his girlfriend were both students of Pennsylvania University.
The incident took place on Friday morning, when Washington’s girlfriend was just leaving the house. He suggested that she have a drink from the water bottle in his refrigerator, which she did. But on reaching her room in the college campus, she started feeling a burning sensation in her throat and started vomiting, and eventually called the emergency.
The prosecutor’s office told media that during questioning, Washington owned up to pouring bleach in his girlfriend’s bottle in order to cause a miscarriage. “He had stated previously that he did not want the female to have the child," they added.
"The charges are twisted and the intended result nothing short of horrifying,” district attorney Craig Stedman said in a statement.
Doctors revealed that the woman and her two-month-old foetus narrowly escaped the danger unharmed.
Washington, whose bail has been put up at $1 million, is awaiting the preliminary hearing on November 4.
