Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton quit fundraising circuit

Republican to spend more time on campaign trail.

Washington: With less than two weeks to go until Election Day, Republican Donald Trump’s campaign on Wednesday said that it has scheduled no more big-money fundraising events to benefit the Republican Party, the Washington Post reported.

This will compound the problems of the already-fragile campaign that has been faring badly with several polls showing Democratic rival The Republicans are up against a candidate and a party that is much larger and has a better-financed operation, the Post report said.

Steven Mnuchin, Trump’s national finance chairman, told The Washington Post that Trump Victory, a fundraising committee, held its last formal fundraiser on October 19. “We’ve kind of wound down,” Mr Mnuchin said, adding “the online fundraising continues to be strong.”

Mr Mnuchin said the campaign has decided to keep the candidate’s final weeks focused on taking his message to the voters in person rather than on raising money.

The Republican party collected $40 million through Trump Victory as of September 30. In September, Trump raised $100 million for his campaign and Republican partners, while Clinton raised $154 million for her side.

Meanwhile, Ms Clinton made her final fundraising stop on Wednesday in Miami. Her campaign communications director Jennifer Palmieri said, “We met our goals...We have had the money that we needed to compete.”

However, according to the Chicago Tribune the Clinton campaign has scheduled 41 other events between now and November 3 featuring high-profile surrogates including daughter, Chelsea, running mate Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Virginia, and Cher, according to a schedule sent to donors over the weekend.

Mr Trump will leave the campaign trail on Wednesday to attend the opening of his new Trump-branded hotel in Washington.
