Emmanuel macron spends $30K on makeup

However, while ratings are low his makeup bill seems to have increased.

Three month into office and the French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating has fallen to around 36 per cent. However, while ratings are low his makeup bill seems to have increased.

The Elysée Palace has admitted that France’s youngest leader since Napoleon spent more than $30,000 on “cosmetic services” in his first three months in office, Le Point magazine reported.

The French magazine said his personal makeup artist — referred to only as Natacha M — put in two bills, one for $11,000 and another for over $19,000. The same makeup artist also applied foundation to Mr Macron during his presidential campaign.

The Elysée Palace defended the high fee saying: “We called in a contractor as a matter of urgency”. The same makeup artist also applied foundation to Mr Macron during his presidential campaign.

Representatives of the 39-year-old President said the spending was the result of an “emergency" situation and that future makeup costs would drop significantly. They also argued the amount spent is less than under Mr Macron’s predecessors.

Former French President François Hollande spent over $35,000 per quarter on makeup, including the salary of a makeup artist. In addition, he also reportedly paid his hairdresser a salary of $11,600 per month. The huge amount had caused outrage and sparked accusations of “shampoo Socialism”. Nicolas Sarkozy used to spent $9,000 per month on his hair and makeup.
