Woman, sons accused of cleaning blood in dead husband's home

The 50-year-old Penfield man had been struck, strangled and disfigured with acid.

Penfield: Two brothers accused of helping their mother clean up blood inside their slain father's suburban Rochester home have been released on bail, and authorities also have found the man's abandoned vehicle as their investigation into his death continues.

Police say Craig Rideout's mutilated body was found July 20 dumped off a road in the town of Jerusalem on Keuka Lake in New York's Finger Lakes region. The 50-year-old Penfield man had been struck, strangled and disfigured with acid. No one has been charged with his death.

Brothers Colin and Alexander Rideout, ages 22 and 19, and Craig Rideout's estranged wife, Laura, have been charged with tampering with evidence. Laura Rideout, 45, was released on bail last week. The brothers were released Monday on $25,000 bail. Attorneys for the three have yet to comment.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said investigators found Rideout's Honda Odyssey on Tuesday morning in a park-and-ride lot near Interstate 490 outside Rochester. The vehicle was being searched by crime scene technicians.

Craig Rideout's sister called police July 20 to report him missing. Authorities say the call was made after she went to her brother's home and found his wife cleaning the residence. The next day, police received a tip about suspicious activity at a park south of Rochester.

Investigators say they found Colin and Alexander Rideout hiding evidence, including gloves, cleaning solvents and acid-based drain cleaner, by placing the items in a bag and tossing it into a pond.
