'We turned into cannibals', Andes plane crash survivor recalls horrific moment
In a horrifying and traumatic revelation, a survivor of the the ill-fated 1942 Andes chartered plane crash has spoken about the torment that he had to undergo while being left to die on the deserted Andes mountain range.
The survivors recalls the moment on October 13, 1972 when their plane crashed on the mountainous stretch leaving most of the passengers dead. Out of the many on board only 27 of them survived, of which 8 people were killed due to an avalanche.
The remaining 16 people were rescued on December 23, 1942, almost two months after the crash.
Those two months of survival became a tough challenge for everyone, said the survivor. He described the moment when he had to bid goodbye to innocence in the most dreadful way.
The survivor said that they had not eaten since days and were starving to death. With each passing day and the freezing cold their hunger began to become unbearable. It was then that they decided to gather broken glass pieces and razor blades to cut open the clothes of their dead friends and eat their flesh.
They had to eat their flesh of their dead friends frozen in the snow in order to survive.
It was almost after two months when they were rescued from their cannibalism - a horrific memory they will have to deal with for the rest of their lives.
