Brazil: After murdering rival gang members, prisoners cook their meat

In the footage, prisoners boasted of the human barbecue', where they were shown cooking the meat on a skewer over a bonfire.

Sao Paulo: A video recorded at the Alcacuz prison, in Brazil, recently surfaced showing the inmates of the prison roasting the members of the rival gang after 26 members of the penitentiary were murdered in a gruesome clash of gangs.

In the footage, prisoners boasted of the ‘human barbecue’, where they were shown cooking the meat on a skewer over a bonfire, Daily Mail UK reported.

The inmates in the video are said to belong to a drug cartel called the Family of the North and a Rio de Janeiro gang called the Red Commando. And the man whose meat they claimed to be roasting belonged to a group called the First Capital Command (PCC), based out of Sao Paulo.

One of the men shown in the video was even seen shouting "Churrasco do PCC" meaning "PCC steak".

The prison fights started after PCC's alliances fell apart in 2016, after years of maintaining peace with the Red Command.

The Military Police has been struggling to separate gangs in Brazilian prisons, by building walls of shipping containers, since gang wars have become endemic to the prisons in Brazil.

The recent spate of prison riots have also turned some attention to the overpopulation of prisons, lack of funding for maintenance and inadequate prison staff. The Alcacuz prison which holds more than 1,000 inmates was originally designed for 620.

The images and videos of such acts of violence have put pressure on the administration of the President Michel Temer, after they appeared in the media.
