The accused confessed to the crime stating that he was jealous of his baby as his wife spent most of the time with the toddler.

Washington: A Minnesota man was charged with second-degree assault after he tried to shoot his wife while she was breastfeeding their four-month old son, according to a report in the Independent.

The accused confessed to the crime stating that he was jealous of his baby as his wife spent most of the time with the toddler.

Nicholas George Lehmeier, 28, was booked for second degree assault with a deadly weapon. His wife told police that she was verbally as well as physically abused for 10 years, adding that she remembered her husband cocking the gun, pulling the trigger and pointing it at her.

Lehmeier's wife said that her husband was upset with her as she used to spend more time with their newborn child.

After trying to shoot his wife, Lehmeier ran downstairs shouting 'One bullet is enough to end all of this'. He got hold of the handgun and fired out of the window.

Lehmeier's wife told the police that she did not file a complaint as she was afraid that he could harm her. Lehmeier had previously tried to harm his 7-year-old son which resulted into the removal of their other five kids from the house.

Upon conviction, Lehmeier could face up to seven years in prison.
