New York: President Donald Trump vowed Tuesday he would "be there" for America's southern neighbour Mexico after a powerful earthquake hammered the capital, destroying buildings and causing an unknown number of casualties.
"God bless the people of Mexico City. We are with you and will be there for you," Trump tweeted.
The American president has tense relations with Mexico due to his fiery rhetoric on immigration from the Latin American state and pledges to have the country pay for a border wall.
Trump came under heavy criticism when he took days before offering condolences over another quake early this month that killed some 100 people.
