New Jersey: A video footage capturing the moment an explosion rocked the New Jersey station after a robot assigned by police cut the wrong wire, has surfaced online.

Police were attending an emergency after multiple explosive devices were found in a suspicious package at the Elizabeth Train Station.

Officials have said that the robot tried to defuse the explosives, but instead it cut a wrong wire, triggering a huge explosion.

The video footage shows the robot trying to defuse the bomb that was placed in a bin outside the station.

Police had already been investigating a Manhattan bombing, a Minnesota mass stabbing and a New Jersey pipe bomb blast.

New York went on full alert, deploying nearly 1,000 extra state police and National Guardsmen to airports, bus terminals and subway stations as President Barack Obama arrived in the city ahead of Tuesday's opening of the UN General Assembly.

US authorities said the motive of the attacks was unclear, but officials quickly identified them as terror-related.

"If you look at a number of these incidents, you can call them whatever you want: they are terrorism though," New Jersey's Republican Governor Chris Christie, a member of the Trump campaign, told CNN.
