Extramarital affair costs US army general his post

Embattled Army Major General David Haight was demoted by three steps to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Washington: A US army major general was stripped of his stars and demoted to lieutenant colonel because of a long extramarital affair and a ‘swinger’ lifestyle, the Daily Mail reported.

Embattled Army Major General David Haight was demoted by three steps to the rank of lieutenant colonel and his annual pension will drop from $1,22,000 to $79,800, according to USA Today.

The married father of four’s mistress Jennifer Armstrong, a government employee, told the newspaper that their 11-year long affair started in Iraq with an email about his “terrific smile” and that they later went to swingers clubs to have sex with anonymous strangers.

Adultery is a violation of the US Army’s Uniform Code of Military Justice. An Army inspector general investigation concluded that Haight had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a woman who was not his wife, and that he misused government resources, including a department cell phone for personal calls.
