US mom ready to go to jail for incest

Incest is a crime across the US, but the laws and punishments differ in all the 50 states.

Santa Fe: A mother and son in the United States’ Clovis might have to spend up to 18 months in prison for being ‘madly in love’ with each other. The duo will be facing trial later this year and go to jail if found guilty of incest.

According to a report in Daily Mail, Monica Mares, 36, and her son Caleb Peterson, 19, have decided to fight for their right to have a sexual relationship and are ready to put everything at risk just to be together.

They have also decided to spread awareness about Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA) — incest between close relatives, such as siblings or half-siblings, a parent and offspring.

Mares said that even the jail term wouldn’t come between the two and that she would move with him to another state that will accept them as a couple. She is also willing to choose Peterson over her other children.

“He is the love of my life and I don’t want to lose him. My kids love him, my whole family does. Nothing can come between us; not courts, or jail, nothing. I have to be with him. When I get out of prison I will move out of Clovis to a state that allows us to be together,” Mares said.

Mares and Peterson, who were living together since December last, now live separately in Clovis, New Mexico, as a court earlier this year banned them from having any contact with each other.

Peterson was born when Mares was only 16 years old and was adopted by another couple. The two met for the first time in Christmas last year after Mares got in touch with Peterson’s adoptive father through Facebook.
