Donald Trump won't be state guest as UK visit downgraded

Mr Trump's UK visit is likely to be part of a tour of several countries and will not be a red carpet event as had been envisaged.

US President Donald Trump will visit the UK in 2018 but his visit has been downgraded to a “working visit” which means he will not be a guest of the Queen, media reports said on Wednesday.

Mr Trump’s UK visit is likely to be part of a tour of several countries and will not be a red carpet event as had been envisaged.

Prime Minister Theresa May had offered a state visit to the first-term President which had been greeted with threats of boycott and mass protests by the Opposition. The honour of a state visit is usually reserved for a President’s second term, Evening Standard reported.

However, Ms May’s office said she was not aware of plans for a “working visit” and said the position on the state visit had not changed, Independent reported.
